Mr. Christy's Math Class Expectations (Room #315)

You will find that you "can do" math. All one needs to do is "try" and they "can do". Everyone can think and solve problems, including you! If at anytime you have a question or concern, please let me know. I am available after school or by appointment. If you are ever absent my email is christyd@ips.k12.in.us. I usually am available after school for tutoring also, pending any other responsibilities I might have.

Materials Needed to Succeed

  • Pencil or Pen (if neat) - needed daily. I may or may not be able to supply them.
  • 3-prong Notebook with pockets - graded weekly
  • Book - Provided by school. (-1 pt/day if not brought to class)

Keys To Succeed in Math (and Life)

  • Be prompt - in seat when bell rings. Standing anywhere after the bell rings will be a tardy (- 2 pts/day). I will assign a person each month to take attendance in case of a substitute and reward them with bonus points/candy/etc
  • Be polite - Respect others, raise hand to speak (only 1 talking at a time). Do not interrupt others. Any disruptive behavior that interferes with the learning process will warrant a time out, phone call home, or a referral.
  • Be productive - try all assignments and activities. Start on homework in class if there is time so I can assist you with any problem areas
  • Be a problem-solver - I refuse to "give out" answers, only hints and guidance. Your future employers want you to think on your feet. Think, ask questions, talk it out with your group, then come to me if you still can't figure something out.
  • Be responsible - Clean up your own mess and put things back where you found them - Please respect the fact that other classes have to use the same room. You would want a clean room to come to every day. Groups will be assigned each week for this.

No food, drinks, or candy unless I provide them. Bottled water and gum is OK
Passes One at a time

Make-up policy

Make up work will be allowed. You must make this work up within one week from the day you return to class. It is your responsibility to ask for work and turn it in. Assignments will be posted on the bulletin board therefore they are available at all times. Work will not be accepted after the deadline. Tests and quizzes must be made up after school. After one week, missed work will turn into a grade of 0.

Homework

You will have homework almost everyday but it will consist of 5 -10 problems over major concepts we cover that day. I will randomly select groups to collect homework from so BE READY at all times. I feel that homework is a learning process and students should be rewarded for trying and being organized.
